Oppo launches the first mobile application using Ray Tracing

Chinese Oppo is the first to take advantage of new graphics technologies on smartphones, in particular Ray Tracing, made possible by the latest processors.

Samsung recently launched the Galaxy S22 smartphones equipped with the new Exynos 2200 processor, the first model equipped with AMD technology capable of handling Ray Tracing technology, a 3D rendering technique that traces the path of light and simulates its effects when it enters in contact with the objects of a scene, offering a result and a striking realism.

The recent Dimensity 9000 chip from MediaTek is also equipped with such capabilities, but one question remains: when will we see this famous Ray Tracing on a smartphone screen? The Chinese manufacturer Oppo responds with an Android application to be launched this year, a collection of 3D screen savers using Ray Tracing. Perfect to highlight its latest flagship smartphone Find X5 Pro, equipped with a Dimensity 9000 processor.

The word to Jane Tian, head of graphic products at Oppo US

“As a technology pioneer, Oppo has always explored new opportunities to enrich the mobile experience for our users,” said Jane Tian, Head of Graphics Products at Oppo US. The ability to use Ray Tracing on smartphones will bring more realistic and immersive games. Our 3D screensaver will also serve as a starting point for using the technology to explore future applications on connected devices."
