Streaming, big winner of the pandemic

After a prosperous period thanks to the confinements, the video streaming market is returning to more reasonable levels.

At its EnTech Fest 2022 event in early May in Los Angeles, the Digital Entertainment Group (DEG) analyzed the transition of the video streaming market following the end of the lockdowns caused by the coronavirus pandemic .

The SVOD big winner of the pandemic

“SVOD was the big winner of the pandemic period,” explains Elizabeth Lafontaine of the NPD analysis firm. And to add that at the start of 2022, the market softened following the relaunch of outdoor leisure experiences. Consumers are indeed returning to amusement parks, resuming travel, going to see shows, etc.

Consumers increasingly engaged with streaming services

Since they are coming out again, people use SVOD less. Nevertheless, the sector is seeing a higher level of engagement than before the pre-pandemic period. As a reminder, in October 2020, in the heart of Covid-19, each user put their hand in their pocket to take advantage of 5.2 services on average, while this figure fell to 3.9 in October 2021. A result however higher than that observed before the start of the pandemic.
