Product Manager at Sony, Yasuo Takahashi recently revealed some features that the PSVR2 virtual reality headset for PlayStation 5 will benefit from, starting with a Transparent View mode that allows you to see your surroundings at any time thanks to the camera integrated into the front of the helmet. Useful for example to find its PS VR2 Sense controllers without having to remove the headset.
PS VR2 headset, scan the environment to avoid accidents
Next comes a system that scans your surroundings automatically, with additional manual fine-tuning using the joysticks. The playing area and its obstacles (chairs and other furniture) are thus recorded and -in the middle of the game- if you are about to bump into each other, the headset will alert you (see illustration below).
Cinema Mode for PS VR2 Headset
Note, finally, a Cinematic mode to enjoy non-VR (virtual reality) content by simulating a virtual cinema screen with a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 with a refresh rate of 24/60 Hz and even 120 Hz. For comparison, in VR mode, content is displayed in 4000x2040 HDR (2000x2040 per eye) video format with a frame rate of 90Hz/120Hz.
