IFA 22 > Epson EH-LS800B/W, ultra-short-throw Ultra HD/4K laser-like video projectors

The only novelty concerning us on the stand of the Japanese manufacturer is called Epson EH-LS800B/W. This is a tri-LCD ultra-short-throw laser projector available in black or white (Epson EH-LS800W reference).

These new Epson references are of course capable of displaying an Ultra HD 4K image still based on the principle of wobulation at work on the brand's other UHD video projectors, consisting of the extremely fast display of two Full HD images offset from each other by half a pixel diagonally to create 4,147,200 pixels (compared to 8,294,400 pixels for a native Ultra HD/4K image), a number half that of a Ultra HD/4K picture. This technology, called 4K Enhancement or 4K Pro-UHD at Epson, improves contours, eliminates aliasing and increases contrast in heavily textured image portions. In the end, the precision and sharpness are far superior to those of a Full HD image.

Epson EH-LS800B/W, minimal recoil for big picture

The advantage of ultra short throw video projectors is of course in order, i.e. an 80'' (203 cm) image with a setback of only 2.3 cm from the wall/screen and up to 150'' (381 cm) with a setback of 28.5 centimeters.

Epson EH-LS800B/W, major new features

First, the light source here is laser-based (announced lifespan: 12,000 hours) and displays a brightness of 4,000 lumens (2,000 lumens in Eco mode), allowing you to enjoy the spectacle offered by these video projectors in broad daylight, to watch a sporting event for example. On the contrast side, Epson gives the figure of 2,500,000:1.

Epson EH-LS800B/W, 10 bit management and HDR

The LCD panels are 0.62'' models and in addition to their ability to handle a 10-bit Ultra HD signal on the HDMI inputs, Epson has also equipped these new projectors with HDR10 compatibility to take advantage of all the quality of the new Ultra HD Blu-Ray discs for example. Namely, the management of HDR HLG is also required, the HDR parameters are adjustable from 100 to 10,000 nits, the focus is manual and the maximum diagonal of the image reaches 150'' (381 cm). For the rest, we find the Frame Interpolation motion compensation (unfortunately still inactive on a 4K Ultra HD signal).

Epson EH-LS800B/W, HDCP 2.3 certified

The connection has three HDMI 2.0 inputs (ARC management on one of them) HDCP 2.3 certified, three USB Host 2.0 ports, an optical output and a 3.5 mm mini-Jack audio output. Epson specifies that the Input Lag is low without however giving its value. The stereo audio section, in the form of a sound bar, signed Yamaha delivers a power of 2 x 10 watts.

Epson EH-LS800B/W, Wi-Fi compatibility, Bluetooth and Android TV on board

The Epson EH-LS800B/W immediately include Wi-Fi ac and Bluetooth compatibility. Also a noise level of 19 dB in Eco mode and 32 dB in Normal mode and the Android TV 11.0 operating system with Chromecast functionality (integrated) for wireless streaming of audio-video content.

Availability scheduled for October, in white or black. Indicative price: 3,699 euros.
