Netflix, new Essential offer with advertising at €5.99/month on November 3

The new Netflix subscription offer, more affordable in return for advertising, arrives on November 3 in France and is called Essential with advertising. On average, 4-5 minutes of ads per hour are advertised and some content will be excluded from this subscription.

Officially announced a few hours ago by the OTT service, the Essential option with ads will therefore be available in 12 countries from its launch on November 3: Germany, Australia, Brazil, Canada, South Korea, Spain, United States United States, France, Italy, Japan, Mexico and United Kingdom.

Netflix Essnetiel with pub, 4 to 5 minutes of pub per hour

As announced in our previous news on the subject, this offer will include an average of 4 to 5 minutes of advertising per hour. Each commercial will last 15 to 30 seconds. Ads will run before and during shows and movies, confirms Netflix, which is partnering with Microsoft to set up ads.

Netflix Essential with ads, some content inaccessible

And some content, about 5% to 10% of movies and TV shows, will not be available due to rights issues. Which means that Netflix original content is not affected, so they will all be present. A 720p signal (i.e. identical to that of the Essential offer) and 1 single simultaneous stream is announced for the Essential streaming offer with streaming ads. Clarification, there is no download option but that may come later, Netflix hinted.

Voice over to Greg Peters, Netflix Chief Operating Officer and Chief Product Officer

“We are excited to launch Essentials with Ads, Netflix's low-cost ad-supported package, in November,” said Greg Peters, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Product Officer, Netflix. In short, Essnetiel with Ads is everything people love about Netflix, at a lower price, with a few ads in between. We are confident that with Netflix starting at €5.99 per month, we now have a price and a plan for every consumer. Although the announcement of the Essentials with ads offer is extremely recent, we are pleased with the interest from consumers and the advertising community, and we are very excited about what lies ahead. As we learn and improve the experience, we plan to launch this offering in more countries.”
