According to a recent study by Conviva (via Advanced Television), streaming video viewing time around the world increased by 13% in the second quarter of 2021 compared to the same period last year.
Very strong progression of streaming in Africa and South America
In detail, North America grew by 2% between these two periods, while the increase is strongest in Africa, which climbs by 79% and South America by 192%. Figures explained by the launch of new services in these latter regions, and the pioneering status of the United States, which already had a solid installed base, limiting significant growth.
Privileged Streaming on Smart TV
The big screen is favored in viewing, with a growth of 46% for viewing time on Smart TV, 5% for TV boxes, but a drop of 14% for game consoles (connected to the big screen) . Watching time on smartphones, for its part, increased by only 1% between the second quarters of 2020 and 2021.
