Samsung 2022 Smart TVs dematerialize PCs and consoles

After integrating decoders, then TV boxes, Samsung now makes it possible to do away with PCs and other game consoles. the TV becomes capable of "replacing" a console or a computer to offer Cloud Gaming a new dimension.

As of 2015, Samsung has equipped its Smart TVs with features intended to offer ever-optimized user comfort. In addition to ever-improving ergonomics, these televisions have gradually been equipped with integrated systems capable of simplifying their owner's multimedia environment. Progress that requires the elimination of peripheral boxes, dedicated to specific functions, multiplying the number of remote controls and cluttering up the installation while complicating its wiring.

A process that began in particular with the integration of the essential Canal+ decoder into the television (before the provision of the myCanal application by the pay channel). Then, Samsung was the first manufacturer to offer televisions capable of directly managing the Apple TV application. More recently, in partnership with Bouygues Telecom, the brand offered its customers a totally dematerialized Triple Play offer. Finally, the start of the school year saw Samsung integrate into its televisions those of the Internet service providers Bouygues Telecom, Free and Orange to directly enjoy Internet television via the Tizen interface of the screen and its remote control, without the need for the box. TV (see our Samsung Smart TV news 2018 to 2022, focus on dematerialized TV boxes).

2022, Samsung Smart TV with Gaming Hub function

Today, Samsung is taking a new step by addressing the world of video games. A universe which, with the appearance of Cloud Gaming technology, already made extensive use of dematerialized technology. As a reminder, Cloud Gaming offers the possibility of enjoying a catalog of games stored on a remote server, on demand, like series or films via Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, myCanal... And as with a series or a movie, it is possible to start a game on a console or PC, stop it and continue on a smartphone, tablet or Smart TV.

But Samsung now has the ambition to upset, neither more nor less, the very concept of video games by dematerializing in turn the console or the PC. Thus a new space, called Gaming Hub, made possible by the increase in the computing power acquired by the processors integrated in the brand's latest generation of Smart TVs (and in the Smart Monitor 2022 from its IT division), is available within the Tizen interface.

However, video games are not just about “hardware” and making this change attractive necessarily involves establishing partnerships with the biggest names in video games. Samsung has therefore approached prestigious players in the video game world to offer a particularly ambitious fully dematerialized Cloud Gaming offer. For example, by emulating Microsoft's famous XBox game console, televisions equipped with the Gaming Hub can directly use the Game Pass offer (see photo below), among others. But many other services are also offered, always simulating the behavior of different game consoles, multimedia boxes or PC computers. Thus it is possible to access in particular the services of Cloud Gaming Geforce Now (see photo below) signed nVidia, as well as those of streaming video offered by Twitch. And more are to come…

For the end user, ergonomics is not the only advantage of the Gaming Hub solution. It also gives a new dimension to the very notion of video game by offering it most often the very large diagonal of the television associated with an incomparable image quality. Specificities that guarantee a real feeling of immersion within virtual universes created from scratch with incredible realism. This large image size is of course associated with all the "gaming" technologies developed over the past five years by Samsung. We can mention the 12-bit processing of the video image allowing to visualize more details in the dark zones of an image and to see hidden enemies (very useful with certain online game titles), HDMI 2.1 connectors (all d obedience 2.1 from the 55Q70B model) capable of conveying 4K/144 or 8/60 signals from the latest generation game consoles or new nVidia RTX 4000 graphics cards, or by activating the 32:9 ratio (Super Ultrawide Gameview) take advantage of the display of the game map via the Minimap Zoom option (see photo below) to progress more easily or more easily prepare a game strategy. Similarly, the ultra-fast response time of this new generation of televisions (also known as Input Lag) guarantees low latency. A particularly sensitive point for online players with the responsiveness of the various participants put to the test during fierce battles.

In terms of viewing comfort, it is also access to video games in HDR and without any jerks thanks to the integration of the AMD FreeSync Premium Pro image processing system, as well as VRR and ALLM functionalities. Finally, the sound dimension, through the Object Tracking Sound+ process, is also optimized to further accentuate the feeling of immersion within the action. Finally, we must mention the Game Bar 2.0 (in the presence of a PC game only), available as an overlay on the image and allowing access, at any time, to the various parameters of the game to maximize its use.

Gaming Hub compatible with PayStation, Xbox, nVidia, Logitech controllers…

Of course, if these developments are designed to further enrich the gaming experience, they also respect the habits of the different participants. Thus, televisions (and monitors) equipped with the Gaming Hub are compatible with most recent generation gamepads. For example, for Microsoft, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One X/S (see photo below), Xbox 360, Xbox Elite-Series2 and Xbox Adaptive controllers are supported. The same is true for the Sony PS5 DualSense and PS4 DualShock4 controllers. The nVidia controller from the Shield TV box is also accepted, as well as the Logitech F710, F510, F310, the Amazon Luna and many more. Note that while Samsung recommends the use of Bluetooth game controllers for obvious reasons of user comfort, the Gaming Hub also perfectly manages older wired controllers. Thus, to make the most of these new features offered by the television, it is therefore unnecessary to invest in new accessories. Various peripherals already present for many years in homes suit it perfectly. Good financial news.

Samsung Gaming Hub, exclusive features

Other exclusive advantages linked to the Samsung Gaming Hub, always from the Q70B models (see photo below), the music + streaming option for example to change the soundtrack of a game. Via the Note icon of music present on the menu, it is thus possible to launch your favorite playlist on Spotify, then quit the application and launch a Cloud Gaming session. Another possibility is to take advantage of the Wide Angle Multiview functionality to display two separate video sources on the screen, the game of course plus a YouTube video or a smartphone via Mirroring…

Finally, thanks to the democratization of access to very high speed, it is now possible to achieve image quality associated with incomparable fluidity of movement. If these new televisions have an Ultra HD 4K definition, a characteristic that has now become fairly generalized when it comes to large diagonal screens, they above all guarantee a frame rate at 144 hertz. A frequency almost three times higher than that of conventional video images which guarantees the fastest movements a remarkable fluidity.
