2022, the worst year for smartphones in Europe

It has been ten years since the smartphone market did so badly on the old continent.

According to the latest estimates from Counterpoint Research, 2022 was the worst year for smartphone distribution in Europe, with a figure of 176 million units, 17% less than in 2021, and the worst total for the continent since 2012. In question, geopolitical uncertainties and a disastrous economic climate.

Samsung still the leader, Apple is back as a challenger

In the fourth quarter - traditionally the best of the year - the market fell by 24% compared to the previous year, and it is the worst fourth quarter in Europe since 2011. Samsung retains its place on the continent leader despite a 25% decline in distribution compared to 2021. Apple regained its second place from Xiaomi, even though the iPhone 14 had the weakest launch in the iPhone line, since the iPhone 5 in 2012.
