USB-C on iPhone 15, Apple in control

The European Union has forced Apple to adopt the USB-C port on the next iPhones, but the latter will not accept just any cables.

To comply with new European legislation, Apple is forced to abandon its proprietary Lightning format to switch to USB-C with the new iPhone 15 range. But as a rumor suggested in February, it will not be not "Open Bar", and Taiwanese analyst Ming-Chi Kuo recently corroborated.

Rising production of 20W USB-C chargers

Indeed, according to him, only certified cables and chargers will make it possible to take advantage of the maximum charging speed authorized by the iPhone. For example, the iPhone 14 and 14 Pro have a maximum charging speed of 20 W and 27 W respectively, only accessible with official Apple adapters. Thus, still according to Kuo, Apple should increase the distribution of its 20 W chargers by 120% at the launch of the iPhone 15, because many users still have old chargers not equipped with USB-C.

USB-C, full transfer speed reserved for iPhone 15 Pro

At the end of last year, the same Ming-Chi Kuo predicted that the new iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max for the start of the 2023 school year will have at least USB 3.2 or even Thunderbolt 3 compatibility via their new USB-C port, but that the "standard" iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus models would keep the old USB 2.0 standard and would therefore not benefit from the new transfer speed of the Pro models.
