A direct replacement for the first QD Oled Samsung S95B series, which appeared in the brand's catalog in 2022, the Samsung S95C benefits from the new generation of QD Oled panels presented by Samsung Display at the CES show in Las Vegas 2023 last January. On this subject The company strongly insisted at the CES in Las Vegas on the technical overhaul of the QD Oled panel with in particular a new blue organic emitter and pixel control algorithms significantly optimized for artificial intelligence.
Samsung S95C, second generation QD Oled technology and 2000 nits
Three Samsung S95C references are on the menu, the Samsung TQ55S95C (55'', 140 cm), Samsung TQ65S95C (65'', 165 cm) and Samsung TQ77S95C (77'', 196 cm). They all ship the new QD Oled panel announced 30% brighter than that of Samsung S95B TVs vintage 2022 on the one hand, and more economical with an energy consumption of around -25%. This second-generation QD Oled panel, combined with a graphite heat sink, therefore makes it possible to display a light peak beyond 2,000 nits.
Samsung S95C, focus on design
The design of the S95C series for 2023 is based this year on a remote One Connect box with an even finer look than the One Connect 2022. As usual now with Samsung, it can be " clipped†to the back of the TV, on the axis of the stand, or remote from the screen for absolute discretion. In this configuration, only a relatively thin cable (similar to an antenna cable) connects the case and the screen for extreme freedom of placement. Stripped of part of the electronics and connectors, the Samsung S95C TVs look great with a screen thickness of only 8 mm over the entire surface of the Oled panel. Good news for fans of wall mounting, the Samsung S95C TVs will give the impression of being literally pressed against the wall. 'a beautiful impression of lightness.
Samsung S95C, main specifications
In terms of specifications, Samsung S95C Ultra HD 4K OLED QD TVs incorporate therefore a native 10-bit and 144 Hz OLED panel. They also benefit from the Neural Quantum Processor 4K processor. As with the 2022 televisions, this mixes the Machine Learning process and the Deep Learning process. As in 2022 still, there are 20 Deep Learning modules at work for magnificent image quality (see our CES 22 news > Samsung Neo QLED TV, 20 Deep Learning modules and Real Depth Enhancer for the Neo Quantum Processor 2022).
As a reminder, the Deep Learning process is based on a neural model, i.e. without human intervention (unlike Machine Learning) in the learning of the processor. This decides on its own on the necessary changes to the image processing algorithms to regain optimum quality starting from a degraded display. Another improvement is the EyeComfort Mode function which, once the television is connected to the Internet, subtly modifies the brightness and color temperature of the image according to the time of day, for optimal viewing comfort at all times. The latter, for example, reduces the blue light emitted in the evening to help sensitive people sleep. Regarding the quality of the image displayed on the screen, the self-emissive Samsung S95C TVs are capable of completely turning off each of the (almost) 8.3 million pixels present. The density of the blacks is therefore perfect. In terms of brightness, QD Oled 2023 technology offers a very significant light peak, illustrated by the name Quantum HDR Oled Plus. On the HDR side, the Samsung S95C TVs are compatible with HDR10, HDR10+, HDR10+ Adaptive and HDR HLG. We also note, for these S95C specimens, an unprecedented QLC (Quantum Light Control) coating, with an extremely low reflectance index (reflections are almost non-existent). We don't know more about its nature at the time of this writing, but it's devilishly effective. The sound section is also featured on the Samsung S95C TVs. The first concerns the OTS+ process. This has a total of eight speakers placed at the back of the screen (4.2.2 system) for a total power output of 70 watts. Of course, Dolby Atmos compatibility is on the program. For the rest, we find the Q-Symphony 3.0 function. The latter consists, always, in the presence of a connected Samsung Q-Series 2020/2021/2022 soundbar, of taking advantage of the television speakers in addition to those of the soundbar to magnify the sound reproduction, its breadth and its spatialization. New in 2023, the soundbar takes advantage of the television's significant processor resources to optimize calibration and sound reproduction. To come back to the Q-Symphony process, until now when a sound bar is connected to a TV, the latter's speakers are then disconnected. With the Q-Symphony system signed Samsung, they remain active and largely contribute to the perceived audio improvement with a configuration up to 11.1.4 depending on the sound bar connected. And the demonstration we have witnessed truly demonstrates the effectiveness of the process and its relevance. Namely, if the soundbar is connected wirelessly to the television (via Wi-Fi), the management of Dolby Atmos soundtracks is of course also provided wirelessly. Samsung S95C, Quantum HDR Oled Plus
Samsung S95C, Adaptive Sound+, AVA, OTS and Dolby Atmos
The Adaptive Sound+ function, an evolution of the Adaptive Sound still capable of adapting the audio settings of the TV in real time according to the image displayed, now takes the listening room into account. Otherwise, the AVA (Active Voice Amplifier) function is still required, intended to cover new noise in the TV environment, automatically. For example that of a kettle or a vacuum cleaner which will be covered by an increase in volume managed directly by the TV. Don't panic, the TV lowers the sound, automatically always, when the noise stops.
Samsung S95C, Multiview function
Like the S95B models, the Samsung S95C Ultra HD 4K Oled TVs offer simultaneous on-screen display of two content with the MultiView function through as many windows: the first with the signal of a TV channel or from a source connected to the TV; the second with the screen of the user's smartphone or from a game console, or even the Internet (see photo below). There are many display possibilities, from the classic PIP to displaying two adjacent windows.
Good point, the HDMI 2.1 standard is required with VRR, Freesync Premium, ALLM and HFR 4K/144 and eARC compatibility on the four inputs. And to activate the Mirroring mode between a Samsung Galaxy smartphone and a Samsung S95C TV, all you have to do, thanks to the Tap View function, is to touch the second with the first, and you're done.
Samsung S95C, Amazon Alexa, Bixby, Google Assistant and new Tizen
In 2023, the Tizen 7.0 interface remains very close to that of last year. It always gives pride of place to content and now all Internet service providers have an IP TV application allowing you to enjoy it directly from a Smart TV and eliminate the need for a TV decoder (cf. our Samsung Smart TV news 2018 to 2022, focus on dematerialized TV boxes).
The Bixby voice assistant is still available, as are Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa. And it is possible to easily switch from one to the other via the menu. On the connectivity menu, we must mention the Wi-Fi 5 function, Bluetooth 5.2 and AirPlay 2 compatibility plus many communication features (Google Meet For example for video calls) or the possibility of working on these Microsoft documents via the Cloud on the TV screen.
Also present, Game Bar 2.0 and its 21/9 or even 32/9 display modes (Super Ultra Wide Game View and Mini Map Zoom function, see our news Samsung 2022 Smart TVs dematerialize PCs and consoles) for video game enthusiasts with the connection of a PC and the Game Motion Plus mode. As a reminder, the latter (adapted to video games as its name suggests) is very interesting since it allows you to activate the motion compensation process of the TV with games while maintaining a fairly low Input Lag. Not to mention the Expert Calibration feature that appeared last year (see our CES 22 news > Neo QLED Samsung 2022 TV, Intelligent Calibration via Samsung Galaxy or iPhone) and an always solar-powered remote control capable of being recharged by RF (radio frequency). Thus, the zappette takes advantage of your box's Wi-Fi to recharge constantly. Namely, in 2023, the latter has been miniaturized and adopts a significantly smaller size than its predecessor.
Of course, the SmartThings feature is still there. The group's IoT (Internet of Things) platform is compatible with Android and iOS and with several hundred devices from other brands (Arlo-type surveillance cameras, Amazon Echo or Google Home-type smart speakers, Philips Hue-type connected lights, connected lock…). Samsung Smart TVs are thus able to fit into the most modern interactive ecosystems with a major advantage, directly linked to their DNA, the possibility of displaying a great deal of information on their screen: the face of the person who has just rung at the front door, the contents of the Samsung Family Hub refrigerator, notifications from the robot vacuum cleaner or even from the washing machine when the cleaning or washing cycle is finished. The television thus becomes the preferred interface for accessing the functionalities offered by Smart Home equipment.
