TCL C845 4K Ultra HD TV: Mini LED OD10, QLED, 2000 nits, HDR10, Dolby Vision/Atmos, 144 Hz and Google TV

Continued, again, from our presentation of the 2023 TV range from the manufacturer TCL. After the TCL C645 and TCL C745 TV series, spotlight on the TCL C845 series based on a Mini LED backlight system.

Unlike the C835 vintage 2022 with three references, the TCL C845 offered in 2023 by the Chinese manufacturer has four, the TCL 55C845 (55'', 140 cm), TCL 65C845 (165 cm), TCL 75C845 (191 cm) and TCL 85C845 (216cm). And as you can see in the photos below, these televisions display a premium design, even more so than that of the C745 models, with a very thin LCD panel frame without any protuberance at the bottom of the panel, a brushed aluminum color and a solid central foot (perforated on the C745).

TCL C845 New Mini LED OD10 Backlight System Ultra HD 4K LCD VA 144 Hz models, the TCL C845 televisions are equipped with an advanced fifth-generation Mini LED system called OD10 (distance between the backlight system and the LCD panel of 10 mm). The panel is of course 10-bit native. In terms of zones, nothing comparable with the C845 models. Indeed, their number has approximately doubled from one year to the next. Judge for yourself: 480 for the 55C845 against 240 for the 55C835, 576 for the 65C845 against 288 for the 65C835, 720 for the 75C845 against and 360 on the 75C835, and 896 for the 85C845 (no 85C835 in 2022). As usual at TCL, each has six diodes. Which gives us a total, respectively, of 2,880, 3,456, 4,320 and 5,376 diodes.

revenue from that of the TCL C835. Firstly, diodes that are all strictly identical, particularly in terms of efficiency (electrical efficiency, wavelength, power) to ensure perfect homogeneity of the image, but also in colorimetric terms for total uniformity and to combat the Demura effect ( also called Clouding) directly from the backlight system and no longer just at the LCD panel. Likewise, these on-board LEDs are able to change state extremely quickly, less than the time required to display an image, even with a 120 hertz signal. Called Direct Drive by TCL, this feature eliminates shadow problems on moving objects. says the brand. Thus, the slightest variations of the image are taken into account and reproduced on the screen for increased realism. Finally, TCL indicates that the diodes of the C845 screens are no longer square but round with a view to better control of the light generated and the significant reduction of the halo phenomenon (Blooming) still visible on the Mini LED diffusers.

In addition to a reduced optical distance and an increased number of zones, the Mini LED backlight system of the C845 displays has another new feature. The first, called Dynamic Alpha Technology, allows the brightness of each of the Mini LED zones to be varied over 14 levels. This fine-tuning makes it possible, for example, to specifically manage the brightness of the zones adjoining those displaying the subtitles of a film in the Cinemascope black band by imperceptibly graying out the black in order to eliminate the off-axis blooming phenomenon. Similarly, the Dynamic Alpha Technology function also improves the uniformity of the panel.

In total, the backlight system of TCL C845 televisions therefore includes three technical developments major for a display quality announced as unprecedented by the brand. And we must admit that the first demonstrations are convincing with a result almost identical to OLED on axis and very close off axis.

TCL C845, main specifications On the menu of technical characteristics, the TCL C845 televisions display a luminous peak of 2,000 nits and QLED (Quantum Dots) technology allows 97% coverage of the DCI-P3 gamut. The melt index indicates PPI 4300 on the 55”, PPI 4400 on the 65” and PPI 4500 on the 75”. Of course, we find the new AiPQ 3.0 video processing.

TCL C845, connectors and HDR The connection has four HDCP 2.3 certified HDMI 2.1 connectors, with HFR 4K/120, eARC (HDMI 4), VRR (from 48 Hz to 144 Hz), FreeSync Premium Pro and ALLM compatibility. There is also a Composite input, an optical output, a USB 2.0 port, an Ethernet port, plus a CI+ port.

Management of HDR10, HDR10+ and HDR Dolby Vision technologies associated with the Dolby Vision IQ functionality (sensor brightness) are required. We can also mention MEMC 120 Hz motion compensation, a new anti-reflective treatment and an anti-blue light mode.

TCL C845, sound section 2.1 and 60 W The 2.1 sound equipment is still signed Onkyo, placed at the back of the screen, for a total power of 60 W (2 x 20 W + 20 W). Dolby Atmos and DTS Virtual-X compatibilities are on the program. Precision, TCL C845 screens are equipped with a DVB-T2, DVB-S2 and DVB-C tuner.

TCL C845, Smart Google TV Of course, like their predecessors, the TCL C845 TVs include the Smart Google TV function (Android 11). For connectivity, the Wi-Fi 5 function is required in addition to Bluetooth 5.0. We still notice the AirPlay 2 / HomeKit and Works with Alexa certifications (requires an Amazon Echo type speaker). In addition to having an internet browser, Voice Search and Chromecast functions, offering access to the Google Play Store rich in several thousand free applications, there is multi-account management, the PIP, the Cast function efficient on Ultra HD content, multitasking management to navigate between several applications, quick access to favorite content via a superimposed side information bar, Google Assistant compatibility, the Google Meet application and the Hands free Voice Control function ( voice control of the TV) without the need for a remote control (miro integrated in the TV).

TCL C845, Game Master Pro 2.0 function with DLG 240 Hz TCL is not forgetting video game enthusiasts with the new Game Master Pro 2.0 feature. In addition to managing the 144 Hz frequency, FreeSync, and direct access to various TV settings to optimize the video game experience, the TCL C845 TVs feature minimal Input Lag, 5.67 ms in the presence of a signal. 120 hertz. Finally, as on the TCL C645 TVs, DLG (Dual Line Gate) technology is used on the C845. The latter, by halving the vertical resolution (therefore in 1080p and not 2160p), offers a 240 Hz display for a smoother and more pleasant gaming experience.

Immediate availability except for the 85'' scheduled for May. Indicative prices: €1,399 for the TCL 55C845, €1,499 for the TCL 65C845, €1,999 for the TCL 75C845 and €2,499 for the TCL 85C845.
