Samsung screen with integrated OPD biometric sensors

Samsung Display presented a new type of Oled screen that could soon arrive on the brand's smartphones and tablets.

During the Display Week 2023 event held from May 23 to 25 in Los Angeles, Samsung presented a new type of screen called Sensor Oled, incorporating a fingerprint sensor also capable of measure the user's blood pressure and heart rate.

Soon smartphones and tablets with biometric sensors

An unprecedented combination that may soon make this screen essential for our portable devices, especially smartphones. Indeed, they are currently limited in terms of biometric measurements, these being for the moment the prerogative of connected watches and bracelets. With such a screen, smartphones could steal market share from wearables.

Samsung Organic Photodiode Screen

Equipped with these sensors, the display can measure stress levels, monitor sleep patterns, and provide data to help promote better health. Samsung specifies that the user must use both hands at the same time on the screen for more rigorous measures. Screen metering capabilities are notably possible via Samsung Display's state-of-the-art OPD technology. OPD for Organic Photodiode, i.e. sensors sensitive to light. Finally, Samsung has not revealed a schedule for the introduction of this screen in its devices, but we suspect that it will arrive sooner or later (and probably faster than we think) on the high-end models of the brand, such as the Galaxy S or Galaxy Z smartphones.
