Dolby Atmos finally on PlayStation 5

The next PS5 Firmware update will bring some notable changes, especially for data storage and 3D Audio rendering.

Sony recently rolled out a beta version of the upcoming PlayStation 5 Firmware, an update currently available exclusively to a handful of users around the world, and which will be officially rolled out to everyone within a few weeks.

Besides several interface, accessibility, and social media integration improvements, the most notable new option is compatibility with Dolby Atmos devices, soundbars, TVs, home theater systems, and more. Concretely, you will now be able to enjoy on your sound system the 3D Dolby Atmos audio rendering offered by certain games, but also films and other content broadcast on streaming services (Netflix and Apple TV in particular).

PS5 and SSD hard drive M.2, storage capacity doubled

Note also the support for M.2 SSD hard drives, allowing you to install an SSD drive up to 8 TB in capacity on the PS5, whereas the limit was 4 TB previously. Enough to store the entire toy library of the vast majority of players.
