Atari 2600, a look back

Intense joy in sight for those nostalgic for video games, with an updated ancestral console capable of reading period cartridges, the Atari 2600+.

This is not the first time that Atari tickles the nostalgic fiber of gamers. This time with a console named Atari 2600+, an update of the ancestral Atari 2600 released in… 1977.

Atari 2600+ compatible with Atari 7800 games

The device is apparently identical to the original model (more compact however, the 2600+ displaying 80% of the size of the original 2600), notably accepting period cartridges, in case you have some left in a box to The cave. A few new features to note, however, including the HDMI output, Full screen mode, an enlarged cartridge port to facilitate insertion, and compatibility with Atari 7800 games (successor released in 1986). The Atari 2600+ comes with a controller and a cartridge containing 10 classics: Adventure, Combat, Dodge 'Em, Haunted House, Maze Craze, Missile Command, RealSports Volleyball, Surround, Video Pinball and Yars' Revenge.

Available in November 2023 at an indicative price of $129.99 in the USA. No information yet on its distribution in France but international distribution is announced.
