PlayStation acquires headset maker Audeze

In the wake of the presentation of its new Pulse Explore and Pulse Elite gaming headsets (see our news Playstation Pulse Explore and Pulse Elite, headphones and headset), Sony announces the purchase of the audio manufacturer Audeze.

Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE), the division of Sony that runs the PlayStation, recently announced the purchase of premium headphone maker Audeze, an acquisition that "will strengthen SIE's efforts to pursue innovation in the audio experience of PlayStation games,” says Sony.

PlayStation and planar magnet transducer technology

This information was delivered shortly after the announcement of two new audio headsets dedicated to the PlayStation, the Pulse Explore wireless headphones, and the Pulse Elite headset. Apparently not a coincidence since these headphones are notably characterized by custom planar magnetic drivers, and Audeze headphones use “patented technologies and unique planar magnet transducers to offer an exceptional sound experience”.

A word to Hideaki Nishino, vp Platform Experience at Sony Interactive Entertainment

"Audeze is a leading brand in headsets, and this acquisition highlights Sony Interactive's focus on innovation and providing the best audio experience for PlayStation gamers," said Hideaki Nishino, Senior Vice President of Platform Experience at Sony Interactive Entertainment. We're excited to integrate Audeze's expertise into the PlayStation ecosystem, capitalizing on the significant advancements we've made with PlayStation 5's Tempest 3D audio technology and Pulse 3D wireless headset. ".

A word to Sankar Thiagasamudram, CEO of Audeze

“Sony Interactive provides Audeze with a unique opportunity to expand our business, as we continue our mission of providing premium audio headphones to recording professionals, audiophiles and gamers,” said Sankar Thiagasamudram, CEO from Audeze. We also look forward to contributing to Sony Interactive's efforts to elevate PlayStation audio experiences to the next level."

Of note, Audeze will continue to make products for other platforms, although the manufacturer will have advantages of being part of the PlayStation ecosystem, says Sony.
