Bowers & Wilkins PX7 S2e, APT-X Adaptive Bluetooth on-ear headphones

More than a year after the appearance of the B&W PX7 S2 over-ear headphones, the British manufacturer Bowers & Wilkins has unveiled its B&W PX7 S2e version. On the menu, a brand new DSP and many associated sound improvements from in-house engineers.

It's not easy at first glance to distinguish the B&W PX7 S2e headset from a B&W PX7 S2. Because, if the two products are the same in form, they differ in substance. The latest addition to the brand, the PX7 S2e, according to its parent, features a new DSP that is significantly more efficient than that of the B&W PX7 S2, allowing new sound optimizations. In short, Bowers & Wilkins therefore announces improved audio quality. Another development, the B&W PX7 S2e helmet is now available with a Forest Green color (green, see photo below) in addition to blue, gray or black colors.

B&W PX7 S2e, finish and weight

The PX7 S22 headphones from Bowers & Wilkins adopt the same finish as their predecessor, allowing a rigid but lightweight chassis, helping to reduce unwanted resonances. For your information, its weight is displayed at 307 g on the scale.

B&W PX7 S2e, Bluetooth APT-X Adaptive onboard

For the rest, it includes most of the technical characteristics of the PX7 S2. Equipped with APT-X Adaptive Bluetooth technology with low latency (less than 80 ms), it is characterized by a variable bandwidth between 280 kbps and 480 kbps. Likewise, the APT-X algorithms have been completely revised to offer superior sound quality to those of APT-X HD, for audiophile-style listening. Hi-Res Audio certification is also required.

The battery life lasts around thirty hours, and a quick charge function allows seven hours of listening time in just 15 minutes. Of course, charging is always associated with a USB-C connector, this can also be used for a wired connection of the PX7 S2e. Note the automatic stopping of the music when you lift one earpiece to hear what is happening around. The sound resumes when the headphones are put back on the ears.

Active noise reduction is still included with a total of four dedicated microphones, and voice pickup is still provided via two additional microphones.

B&W PX7 S2e, 40 millimeter transducers

The audio quality of the B&W PX7 S2e is ensured by generous 40 mm cellulose fiber drivers developed by the team already responsible for the 800 Series Diamond speakers (which equip Abbey Road studios).
