Global streaming market: 321 million new subscribers by 2029

Even if the market is starting to saturate, quite a few customers are still expected in the subscription video streaming (SVOD) sector.

The market analysis and research firm Digital TV Research refines its forecasts from last May concerning the evolution of the video streaming market, with a trend that remains similar.

Global SVOD market, 329 million additional subscribers by 2029?

Thus, between 2023 and 2029, there would be 321 million additional subscribers to an SVOD service, a sector which will then reach 1.79 billion subscribers worldwide. By 2029, six American platforms would total 946 million subscribers, compared to 751 million in 2023. Together, these platforms would represent a growth of 196 million new members.

Netflix would have 44 million additional subscribers and remain the largest platform, despite adding more than 100 million subscribers to the Disney+ portfolio between 2023 and 2029 (provided that Hotstar - popular in Asia - remains in the fold from Disney). “Platforms now measure their success through their profitability,” explains Simon Murray, principal analyst at Digital TV Research. This means that Netflix, already profitable, will be more profitable than its US-based competitors.”
