Denis Villeneuve is already preparing to shoot Dune part 3

Unless Dune Part 2 is a resounding failure at the box office, Denis Villeneuve's next film will indeed be the third part of Dune.

The adaptation of the novel Dune Messiah by Frank Herbert will serve as the basis for the third Dune film. A month ago, the director confirmed at a press conference in South Korea that he had almost finished writing the screenplay for this future third opus of his film trilogy.

Last week, director Villeneuve clarified: “I'm working on four different scenarios including that of Dune Messiah, I don't know if it will be the next one or the next one. My job is to try to keep the spirit of Frank Herbert alive as much as possible, the whole meaning of Dune becomes clear with Dune Messiah."

Much less voluminous than the previous one (256 pages compared to 896 for Dune), The novel Dune Messiah takes place ten years after the events of the first book. The director is also currently working on a mini-series for HBO starring Jake Gyllenhaal, with whom he has already collaborated on Enemy and Prisoners. Dune 2 will be released in theaters in France on February 22 (third trailer below).
