Longlegs, Nicolas Cage panics the box office

Longlegs, the serial killer film that stars Maika Monroe and Nicolas Cage, has grossed $22.6 million in the United States alone, far exceeding the most optimistic projections.

Longlegs even has the luxury of having the best start for an original horror film, while being so far the best start ever achieved by its distributor Neon, in seven years of activity. A good equation for the production and its director Osgood Perkins, who aimed for a rather tight budget while offering the star Nicolas Cage (A talent in solid gold) whom the trailer takes great care to hide, just like the photos of the film intended for the press elsewhere.

A model of know-how therefore, with a cost of less than 10 million dollars and a marketing budget also less than this sum. Its communications plan focused solely on social networks, nothing for television, relying on a campaign intelligently broadcast over several months.

The official synopsis states: “FBI Agent Lee Harker, a talented new recruit, is assigned to the unsolved case of an elusive serial killer. The investigation, bordering on the occult, becomes even more complex when she discovers a personal link with the ruthless killer whom she must stop before he takes the lives of other innocent families. The film has been in theaters since July 10.
