Netflix to the rescue of Kevin Costner

While the box office revenues of the first opus of Kevin Costner's western saga, Horizon an American Saga, are plummeting, Netflix could come to the aid of the actor-director.

Indeed, a recent rumor suggests that the streaming platform Netflix has made an offer to acquire the Horizon franchise. The platform would even be willing to finance the third part of the saga (the second has already been filmed), currently in production and development.

Saga or series?££££

Most of the budget would still be financed by third parties but the goal would be to make each new chapter of the saga available on Netflix several months apart. It could even be that the saga becomes, if Kevin Costner agrees, an episodic mini-series.

Kevin Costner up against the wall££££

You should know that Kevin Costner's biggest requirement for his saga was to be certain that each of the chapters could be released in theaters, and that Netflix has always been reluctant regarding theatrical releases. But today, the situation is different, Kevin Costner is up against the wall: the first film, with a budget of 100 million dollars, has so far only grossed 29.6 million dollars in the world, and it already seems likely that its theatrical run will end in the average range of 30 million dollars. We remember that the last partnership between Kevin Costner and Netflix for the film The Highwaymen had recorded solid success with more than 40 million households watching the film during its first month of availability on the platform.
