278 million Netflix subscribers and me, and me, and me…

Further growth for Netflix worldwide in the second quarter, notably thanks to the Essential with advertising option which continues to win over the public.

Between April and June 2024, Netflix gained 8 million additional subscribers worldwide, increasing its total portfolio to nearly 278 million, 16.5% better than the same period last year.

It should be noted that this is one of the last times that the platform reveals these figures since from 2025 , only the turnover and the time spent by viewers in front of their screen will be announced, considered by the American firm respectively as a better financial marker and a reliable indicator of customer satisfaction. The number of subscribers to the Essential with advertising option increased by 34% compared to the previous quarter. An increase surely helped by the fact that Netflix has been gradually eliminating the old Essential option worldwide since last year.

On the occasion of the announcement of its quarterly results, Netflix also reaffirmed its enthusiasm for live programming . “We're on live TV because our members love it, and it generates a lot of engagement and excitement... What's more, advertisers love it for exactly the same reason,” said Ted Sarandos, co-CEO from Netflix.
