Official Spotify Hi-Fi, but for when and at what price?

Spotify CEO himself, Daniel Ek, discusses the music platform's long-awaited new Hi-Fi option, and more specifically its price.

Planned for early 2021, the Spotify Hi-Fi offer has been a roller coaster ride, sometimes forgotten, sometimes on everyone's lips, before making a comeback very recently.

This new offer whose name we do not yet know -Spotify Hi-Fi, Supremium or Music Pro- is this time on the way, it is on. Even Spotify CEO Daniel Ek mentioned it during the company's latest earnings announcement. And what he says corroborates the latest rumors reported by Bloomberg, notably the price of the new option. “It's going to cost about $17 or $18, but it's going to be a deluxe version of Spotify that has all the benefits of the regular version of Spotify, with a lot more control and much higher quality across the board.”

This therefore gives us $5/6 more than the current price, which would amount to around €15.50 here . As for the advantages compared to the current Premium, these will notably include lossless quality up to 24 bits/44.1 kHz for a selection of songs via the [abc]Flac[/abc] format. For the moment, only Amazon Music, Apple Music, Qobuz and Tidal offer [abc]lossless[/abc] quality.

As a reminder, Spotify has 246 million paying subscribers in the second quarter of 2024, up 12% year-on-year, for a total of 626 million users.
