Broken Rage: the new Kitano for Amazon, selected in Venice

Broken Rage, the next film by Takeshi Kitano (Sonatine, Hana-bi) is produced by Amazon MGM Studios and will be broadcast exclusively on the Prime Video platform in 2025. It has just been selected at the 81st Venice International Film Festival, a festival that has already brought the director luck twice.

In 1997, Takeshi Kitanov won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival for Hana-bi. Six years later, in 2003, he won the Silver Lion for Zatoichi. Will his next film, Broken Rage, do as well? In any case, we wish it well. It will be presented at the Mostra on September 6.

Comedy with violence££££

As a reminder, Broken Rage is the twentieth film directed (written and performed) by Kitano. Presented as a "comedy within a violent film", the film follows, in the first half, a hitman, Nezumi (played by Takeshi Kitano), who fights for his survival when he is caught between the police and the yakuza. But in the second half, the crime thriller takes an unexpected turn, evolving into a self-parodic comedy that tells the same story with a touch of humor.
