Xgimi Aura 2 Dual Light 2.0: UHD 4K and dual laser light source

Continuing our presentation last week of the new Xgimi Aura 2 video projector, revised and largely corrected to integrate the latest technologies of the Chinese manufacturer (see our Xgimi Aura 2 news: ultra-short throw, UHD 4K, Android TV 11 and Dual Light 2.0) with, always, the ambition of an unprecedented image quality at an affordable price. After a visit to the brand's stand and a discussion with the Chinese engineers, we now know more about the Dual Light 2.0 technology implemented on the Aura 2.

The Xgimi Aura 2 first distinguishes itself from its predecessor, the Aura, by its marketing alone or in a pack with an ALR (Ambient Light Rejecting) type technical projection screen. Then, we must talk about its design, significantly more successful than that of its predecessor, even if the choice of materials and colors remains closely linked to Chinese culture. For the rest, this ultra-short throw video projector integrates advanced specifications both in terms of video and ergonomics.

Xgimi Aura 2, main specifications££££

This model integrates all the technologies already present in the original Aura, such as [abc]DLP[/abc] (Digital Light Processing) technology combined with a 0.47" [abc]DMD[/abc] (Digital Micromirror Device) chip, offering a native resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels. Thanks to the XPR4 [abc]wobulation[/abc] technology developed by Texas Instruments, it is capable of displaying a resolution equivalent to 3,840 x 2,160 pixels. In addition, it benefits from MEMC (Motion Estimation Motion Compensation), [abc]HDR10[/abc] and [abc]HDR Dolby Vision[/abc] compatibility, [abc]IMAX Enhanced[/abc] certification and offers an extended color space. The maximum brightness is announced at 2,300 lumens, with a light source displaying a significant lifespan of 20,000 hours. Note that the Xgimi Aura 2 is also a model compatible with 3D technology.

Xgimi Aura 2, advanced Dual Light 2.0 display technology££££

The Xgimi Aura 2 integrates Dual Light [abc]2.0[/abc] technology, which is clearly different from the process used in the Horizon Max, recently presented at CES in Las Vegas in January 2024. This new approach combines a narrow-spectrum [abc]RGB[/abc] laser with another wide-spectrum RB laser. This combination makes it possible to achieve 99% coverage of the DCI-P3 gamut, representing a 19% increase over its predecessor. Furthermore, ISA [abc]5.0[/abc] technology ensures fully automated projection, including focus, keystone correction, obstacle avoidance and adaptation to the color of the wall or projection screen. These features are supported by an ultra-fast 3D ToF (Time of Flight) sensor and a motorized [abc]optical block[/abc]. An Eco Mode function is also integrated, allowing the Xgimi Aura 2 to reduce its light intensity after five minutes of inactivity and to automatically turn off after twenty minutes of absence, while instantly turning back on when presence is detected.

Xgimi Aura 2, Smart TV features and ergonomics££££

In terms of Smart TV, the Xgimi Aura 2 is equipped with Android 11, including the [abc]Chromecast (built-in)[/abc] function, thus offering direct access to the Google ecosystem and the main [abc]streaming[/abc] applications, such as Prime Video, Rakuten and YouTube, although the absence of Netflix remains notable. To project a 100" (254 cm) image, a distance of only 17.8 cm is required, which is a major advantage of ultra short throw projectors.

Xgimi Aura 2, audio performance and connectivity££££

The 2.0 audio section, compatible with [abc]Dolby Atmos[/abc] and [abc]DTS-HD[/abc] formats, is designed by Harman Kardon, a recognized player in the audio field. It consists of four speakers (two [abc]tweeters[/abc] and two [abc]midrange[/abc]-[abc]boomers[/abc]) and Class D amplification, delivering a total power of 60 W (4 x 15 W). As for connectivity, the Xgimi Aura 2 offers two [abc]HDMI[/abc] 2.0 inputs, one HDMI [abc]2.1[/abc] input with [abc]ARC[/abc] (Audio Return Channel) function management, one [abc]optical[/abc] output, one 3.5 mm mini-jack headphone output, three [abc]USB[/abc]2.0 ports and one [abc]Ethernet[/abc] port. It also supports [abc]Wi-Fi[/abc] ax and Bluetooth 5.2 connections.

The Xgimi Aura 2 is available immediately. Recommended price: 2,900 euros.
