$630,000 for Indiana Jones headgear, hats off!

A wealthy collector has got his hands on one of the most legendary pieces of 80s cinema.

At a movie prop sale by the PropStore auction house, one of its key pieces was acquired in mid-August in Los Angeles for the modest sum of $630,000, or "a little more" than its estimate of between $250,000 and $500,000.

This object is the hat worn by Harrison Ford in the 1984 film Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. The most assiduous among you will remember that a similar piece was also sold by PropStore in 2021 for a little "less expensive", namely $300,000. No scam to report, since obviously several of these accessories were produced for the needs of the film.

Also made by the London hatter Herbert Johnson, the headgear is decorated with a gold monogram with the initials "IJ" in its internal lining.
