So, Goonies 2 or not Goonies 2?

For several weeks, a rumor has been circulating about the start of work on a sequel to the cult film The Goonies, which is expected to be released in theaters for Christmas 2026. True or false? Here are some answers.

It was an article published in The Sun on September 6th that set the cat among the pigeons by announcing the imminent production of a sequel to the cult film of 1985 entitled Goonies are Good Enough (a nod to the song by Cindy Lauper in the original film) with, the cherry on the cake, a pre-poster to support it (which smells of AI), a shooting date (next summer) and above all the return of a large part of the original cast, from Sean Austin to Josh Brolin via Ke Huy Quan and Martha Plimpton, but also new arrivals: Daisy Ridley, Catherine O'Hara and Elijah Wood.

Not only do none of the American industry reference magazines (Deadline, The Hollywood Reporter, Variety) confirm at this stage, but The Sun is not really known for its reliable information either... Faced with the scale of the rumor in recent days, Corey Feldman (Bagou in the film) published a clear and unequivocal denial on X: "The Goonies 2, is it for real? Everyone asks me the question... I can officially tell you that it's 100% no! I have no information about a sequel in the works, but I have a surprise for you, I have an exclusive trailer for my favorite work that is finally coming out in theaters very soon... #thebirthday #comingsoon"

The Sun had outright put forward the name of Steven Spielberg to direct the sequel, omitting just in passing that the filmmaker's official schedule is already quite full, notably with a sci-fi film starring Emily Blunt and the remake of Bullit. Suffice to say that The Goonies 2 is not for any sequel...
