The story opens as high-profile jewel heists along the Pacific coast have gone unsolved for a decade, with police pinning the blame on Colombian cartels. Lou Lubesnick, a no-nonsense, middle-aged, recently divorced San Diego detective, pursues an entirely different suspect: a lone, easygoing jewel thief who has eluded capture thanks to a strict code of conduct.
Halle Berry is likely to play an insurance broker named Sharon, who harbors the thief's assets. The film will be directed by Bart Layton, the director of American Animals, from a script he co-wrote with Peter Straughan. Production is set to begin this month.
