Under-screen camera for iPhone, when?

The iPhone screen without any sensors (hidden under the screen) is on its way. But since the technology is not yet ready, even Apple does not know when to deploy it.

There have been rumors for years that a full screen would one day be available on the iPhone. Namely, a screen that occupies 100% of the front, without a black hole, with the photo sensors and others hidden underneath, therefore invisible.

Transparent Oled screens, different technologies at LG Display and Samsung Display££££

According to the latest information from the Korean media The Elec, Apple is waiting for its suppliers to fully master the technology for hiding sensors before considering integrating it into the iPhone. The suppliers in question are Samsung and LG, and neither of them is currently capable of producing screens that can meet Apple's high standards.

Samsung is working with the Canadian company OTI Lumionics to manage the transparency of the part of an Oled screen located just above the sensors, so that enough light enters to ensure good photo and video quality. LG, for its part, is developing adaptable lenses that adjust to maximize the amount of light received through the screen. In short, at the time of writing, these efforts are still in the research and development stage.

The situation explains why Apple does not even know yet which model would be the first concerned, either a "classic" iPhone, or the foldable model that rumors see arriving in 2026.
