Tesla Vs I Robot, homage or plagiarism?

The latest hi-tech products presented by Elon Musk's company bear a disturbing resemblance to the robots and vehicles from the film I, Robot.

In 2019, Tesla launched the "future" car Cybertruck and some found it to resemble one of the vehicles in Paul Verhoeven's sci-fi classic Total Recall. Five years later, Tesla seems to confirm cinema as a source of inspiration with three products presented at a conference in early October.

This time, it is the 2004 film I, Robot that seems to inspire Tesla designers with the humanoid robot Optimus, the autonomous taxi Robotaxi, and the autonomous van Robovan (very "streamliner") which all three seem to come out of the feature film by Alex Proyas (see comparison photo below). The director of I, Robot also published a message about it on X, declaring not without humor: "Hey Elon, can you give me back my designs please? ».

And if you still think that this is just a handful of coincidences, know that this presentation conference within the Warner studio was called… “We, Robot”. It’s hard to be more explicit.
