By 2024 alone, humanity will have spent a combined 500 million years on social media. This is according to the website We Are Social, which ranked countries based on the number of hours their residents (aged 16 to 64) spend each day on social media.
TikTok and YouTube, social media stars££££
In total, 5 billion people actively use these applications, each spending an average of 2.5 hours per day, or more than a third of their total time online. It is worth noting that women spend 16 minutes longer than men on social media, and that TikTok has the highest average time per user, while YouTube has the largest share of usage among all other programs of its kind.
Kenya, the country most connected to social networks££££
Illustrated by Visual Capitalist (see image below), the world ranking puts Kenya at the top with 3h43 of use per day. Last, Japan with 1h53 of daily average. It should be noted that Japan was already in this position in 2019.
