Shame on us, the information dates from mid-October and we are only discovering it now. To tell the truth, it did not make that much noise when it was initially released, and yet it is worth the detour.

So in mid-October, Google announced that it had ordered half a dozen nuclear power plants to power its artificial intelligence data centers, a "world first", the company specifies. Indeed, generative AI and cloud storage require a lot of power, therefore a lot of electricity. So rather than paying a big EDF bill every month, why not produce your own electricity?

It is from the Californian company Kairos Power that Google purchased its power plants, more precisely SMRs or small modular nuclear power plants. These models have a reputation for being much safer and "cleaner" than conventional massive nuclear power plants, rest assured.
The first of these plants will be delivered in 2030, the rest in 2035.
