The next Bateman will be Austin Butler

Austin Butler (Elvis, The Bikeriders, Dune Part II) has reportedly been cast as Patrick Bateman in the new adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis' cult novel, American Psycho.

To be precise, it will be more of a new film adaptation directed by Luca Guadagnino for Lionsgate than a remake of Mary Herron's famous 2000 film, starring Christian Bale as Bateman. Jacob Elordi was considered for the role, but Austin Butler seems to have finally beaten him to it.

The book focuses on a young, wealthy, narcissistic and vain investment banker in Manhattan in the 1980s named Patrick Bateman, who leads a double life as a serial killer. The work has gained notoriety for its violence and very crude style, which has led to it being censored in many countries.

The film adaptation starring Christian Bale has grossed over $34 million against an initial production budget of $7 million. Challengers and Queer director Luca Guadagnino is expected to offer a different take on the character, but it's unclear what exactly that will entail. Scott Z. Burns has written the screenplay for the new version. Guadagnino recently wrapped filming on After the Hunt, starring Julia Roberts and Andrew Garfield.
