Apple, savior of the foldable market?

The foldable smartphone craze seems to have passed and Apple will have to finally get on board to perhaps revitalize this still niche segment.

We've been waiting for a foldable iPhone for a while, and it could give a boost to this still fairly niche segment.

We hear from Ross Young of analyst firm DSCC££££

That's according to Ross Young of analyst firm DSCC, who points out that the foldable market has reached stagnation after growing at a rate of 40% per year between 2019 and 2023. Growth is expected to drop to 5% this year, and to 4% in 2025. Consumer interest is waning and the market needs a jolt to revive. "Apple is expected to enter the foldable smartphone market in the second half of 2026 and, given its dominance in the premium smartphone segment, could generate significant growth for this market," Young said. Any improvements in form factor, features, use cases, durability, etc. could drive new demand for this market.”

So, assuming Apple hits the market in 2026, it could be a record year for foldables, with growth of over 30%, followed by 20% in 2027 and 2028.
