AirPods Max USB-C, Lossless quality and ultra-low latency finally here

A software update is coming soon to make the Apple AirPods Max (USB-C version only) compatible with lossless audio up to 48kHz/24-bit. It won't just look good, it'll also (finally) perform very well.

Apple recently announced the upcoming deployment of a software update for the latest iteration of the AirPods Max headphones ([abc]USB[/abc]-C version released last September, not the Lightning model), which will -finally!- allow compatibility with [abc]Lossless[/abc] audio sources up to 48 kHz/24 bits. And consubstantial with the Spatial Audio content ([abc]Dolby Atmos[/abc]) of the music platform.

This feature will require a USB-C to USB-C connection, so it will unfortunately be ineffective in wireless mode. We can console ourselves by remembering that very few headphones are capable of such quality via [abc]Bluetooth[/abc]. However, it was about time this compatibility arrived, knowing that Apple has been offering Lossless on its Apple Music service since 2021. Another feature added by this update is Ultra-Low Latency audio compatibility, useful in particular for those who use their headphones in a music production context or for gaming enthusiasts. This function also requires a wired connection, USB-C to USB-C or to 3.5 mm mini-Jack.

Apple AirPods Max, finally worthy of its creator££££

The incongruity of the Apple AirPods Max headphones is therefore now only a bad memory (and still only for owners of the USB-C model). Until now extremely expensive compared to its performance, except for cosmetic considerations, the AirPods Max headphones showed almost total inconsistency. Apple products are certainly expensive but quality is essential. With the announcement of this update, Apple is finally putting substance behind form, and the AirPods Max is back in the race for the best models on the market. Better late than never...
