Apple TV would lose 1 billion per year

Big financial hemorrhage for the Apple TV+ streaming platform, home to Ted Lasso and Severance, among others. Not enough to worry Apple, however.

Apple doesn't release financial details or subscriber numbers for its Apple TV+ streaming platform, so you have to turn to unofficial sources to learn more about its health.

In fact, The Information (via Variety) recently revealed that Apple TV+ has around 45 million members and is losing a whopping $1 billion a year. This isn't the first time we've heard about the fragile health of this platform, despite being home to quality original series like Ted Lasso, the recent Dope Thief, and Severance.

1 billion, no big deal at Apple££££

However, when viewed in light of Apple's overall results, $1 billion is practically nothing (OK, we're exaggerating a bit). The company posted $391 billion in revenue for the last fiscal year, with a profit of $93.7 billion. As for the Services division, which includes Apple TV+ but also the App Store and Apple Music, it generated 26.3 billion in revenue, a 14% increase over the previous year.

In short, Apple has the financial strength to continue maintaining its streaming platform, a classy showcase that could one day become profitable.
