LG C5: 6 Oled Evo AI TVs of 42" at 83"

After our publication on the entire LG 2025 Oled TV range unveiled by the Korean manufacturer at the CES show in Las Vegas last January (see our LG Oled 2025 TV news: LG B5, LG C5, LG G5 and LG M5 from 42'' to 97'', prices and key specifications), it's time for our detailed presentations of the different series, starting with the LG C5.

To cut a long story short, the LG C5 OLED Evo AI TV series offers more or less the same specifications as the 2024 LG C4 TVs, with a few notable differences. The first of these, for example, concerns the disappearance of DTS compatibility, whereas the latter was available on the 2023/2024 TVs.

LG C5 OLED TV, higher peak brightness than LG C4 TVs££££

Apart from offering a higher peak brightness than LG C4 screens, it is difficult to find out more about the performance of LG C5 diffusers in this area. The LG representatives we met in Las Vegas were not very forthcoming on the subject. However, a quick exchange with a brand engineer gives us hope for a 10/15% higher peak brightness compared to the 2024 LG C4s. Not very significant, therefore, even if it remains appreciable.

LG C5 TV, Brightness Booster technology££££

Of course, as the name of this TV series indicates, we find the Oled Evo panel of the LG C4 televisions, therefore an Oled EX panel signed LG Display. Like the LG C2/C3/C4 series 2022/2023/2024 vintage, the 42'' and 48'' specimens do not have it. LG Electronics indicates that the reduced pitch size of the 42'' and 48'' Oled panels does not allow to benefit from the increased brightness of an Evo panel (heating problem?). On the other hand, these screens do include the other key elements of the Evo 2024 label, for example the latest version of the Alpha 9 processor, the Gen 8.

This Oled Evo panel benefits from Brightness Booster technology and not Brightness Booster Max as on LG G5/M5 TVs. This distinction in the name indicates the absence of a heat sink (so no aluminum plate to cool the organic diodes).

LG C5 Oled TV, what diagonals?££££

The LG C5 Oled TV series has six references for as many diagonals, exactly like the LG C3/C4 in 2023/2024: LG OLED42C5 (42'', 107 cm), LG OLED48C5 (48'', 122 cm), LG OLED55C5 (55'', 140 cm), LG OLED65C5 (65'', 165 cm), LG OLED77C5 (77'', 196 cm) and LG OLED83C5 (83'', 211 cm).

TV Oled LG C5, Alpha 9 Gen 8££££

The LG C5 televisions use the chip from the LG C3/C4 references, i.e. the Alpha 9. However, the latter in Gen 8 version benefits from some developments brought by the Alpha 11, for example the Dynamic Tone Mapping Pro processes, AI Clear Sound (without the Voice Remastering mode allowing to improve the clarity of the dialogues). Similarly, the AI Super Upscaling treatment replaces the AI Upscaling with new algorithms (Frame + Object Detection Upscaling). The Virtual Surround sound rendering finally progresses compared to that of the C4, in 11.1.2 (against 9.1.2 and contrary to the CES announcement).

LG C5 Oled TV, main specifications££££

For the rest of the specifications, the LG C5 Oled TVs integrate the new WebOS interface which is guaranteed to be updated for the next four years (see our CES 24 news > LG WebOS Re:New function, 4 years of guaranteed updates), HDR Dolby Vision (now active with Filmmaker mode), HDR Dolby Vision Gaming (120 Hz), HDR Dolby Vision IQ, HDR HLG, Dolby Atmos compatibility. All implemented through a [abc]Oled[/abc] 10-bit [abc]Ultra HD[/abc] 4K flat 144 Hz native panel with almost complete coverage of the DCI-P3 color space (99%). We also note the certification with the recent Matter home automation standard.

As for the flagship services, GeForce Now, Shadow, Blacknut and Utomik Cloud are still present. The same goes for the 2025 vintage Game Optimizer mode, which brings together all the TV settings involved with a video game signal and allows the user to configure them individually as desired. In 2025, LG C5 TVs benefit from VRR G-Sync and Freesync 144 Hz certifications in addition to AMD FreeSync Premium. Namely, LG C5 TVs are Intertek certified, a label that guarantees a response time of less than 0.1 ms, Adobe RGB gamut coverage greater than 90% and EOTF curve accuracy beyond 90%.

LG C5 Oled TVs certified Wowcast££££

In 2025, LG C5 televisions, like LG C4 models, still benefit from the Wowcast function. This allows a wireless connection between a TV and a suitable sound bar (see our CES 24 news > 10 LG sound bars: LG S95TR, LG S90TY, LG SG10T, LG S77TY, LG S70TR, LG S70TY, LG S60TR, LG S60T and LG S40T/S20T…) capable of transferring a [abc]Lossless[/abc] [abc]Dolby Atmos[/abc] signal.

TV Oled C5, Smart TV ThinQ AI££££

LG OLED C5 screens of course offer the LG ThinQ AI 2025 function with integrated Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant compatibility. These voice assistants are both accessible directly on the remote control via a dedicated button but also through the TV, without the need for the remote control). In addition to communicating directly with your screen by voice (Google requires a Google Home type speaker), it is possible to control other Google Assistant and Alexa certified devices shared on the local network by voice through the TV. All this allows access to the internet and specific services (LG App Store online store, chat on social networks, etc.), or even directly to the web as on a computer. Of course, [abc]Miracast[/abc], [abc]Bluetooth[/abc] 5.3, [abc]Wi-Fi[/abc] 6, [abc]Chromecast (built-in)[/abc], [abc]AirPlay 2[/abc] and HomeKit are back on the menu.

Otherwise, ThinQ AI has its own artificial intelligence module to easily and quickly control the TV: perfect for giving an order to the TV, for example "Turn up the volume" or "Activate Cinema mode".

But in 2025, the Korean manufacturer announced the LG AI TV functionality accessible on the remote control via a dedicated button with a specific logo reflecting the "LG AI Home" concept presented by the brand at the IFA show in Berlin last September. In addition to numerous interactions with image processing, LG AI TV naturally intervenes in the use of the TV. The Voice ID feature recognizes the user and automatically switches to their profile with recommendations and audio-video settings. Also new is the ability to query the TV and its AI Chatbot to resolve a problem, for example, searching for a particular function in the menus or to help select the best settings based on the nature of the content being broadcast.

LG C5 Oled TV, and the rest?££££

For the rest, we find on the LG C5 TVs a simple [abc]DVB-T[/abc]2, [abc]DVB-S[/abc]2 and [abc]DVB-C[/abc] tuner, an Auto Level function (to avoid sudden changes in sound volume when changing source), Fransat and [abc]Canal Ready[/abc] certifications, [abc]HBBTV[/abc] compatibility, the DVR function to record your favorite programs via one of the three [abc]USB[/abc] Host 2.0 ports on a suitable key or an external [abc]HDD[/abc], all associated with the [abc]Time Shifting[/abc] function. Of course, a virtual keyboard is available via the LG Remote iOS/Android/Windows Phone application to use suitable smartphones/tablets as remote controls.

Finally, if LG does not give details on the Input [abc]Lag[/abc] of the Oled 2025 TVs, it should at least be at the level of that of the 2024 TVs, i.e. around 10 ms (6 ms in 4K/120) with HDR Game mode.

LG C5 Oled TV, HDMI 2.1/HDCP 2.3££££

The LG C5 screens' connectivity finally brings together four [abc]HDMI[/abc] [abc]CEC[/abc] 2.1 inputs certified [abc]HDCP[/abc] 2.3, including one with the [abc]eARC[/abc] function. There is also an [abc]optical[/abc] output, plus three [abc]USB[/abc] Host ports (including one 3.0) compatible [abc]Fat32[/abc] and [abc]NTFS[/abc], a [abc]CI+ port[/abc] and an [abc]Ethernet[/abc] port. In addition to VP9 and AV1, [abc]MP3[/abc], [abc]AAC[/abc], [abc]PCM[/abc], [abc]WMA[/abc], [abc]VC-1[/abc] and [abc]Jpeg[/abc] are supported, with the [abc]MKV[/abc] container.
