BenQ W5800 Projector, W5850 Video Processing Coming Soon

Last week, BenQ unveiled the W5850 home cinema projector, the first cousin of the W5800. It features interchangeable lenses and more advanced video processing, including Dynamic Tone Mapping. However, the W5800 remains relevant; it will soon receive a major firmware update.

With the launch of the BenQ W5850, the BenQ W5800 projector is no longer the leader in the Taiwanese manufacturer's range.

BenQ W5850, hardware and software developments££££

The first-named, with interchangeable optics, has great versatility with a total of four optics allowing it to be placed anywhere in a projection room, regardless of the constraints (see our news BenQ W5850 4K Laser projector, premium Home Cinema experience), without forgetting more advanced video processing, for example through the Dynamic Tone Mapping process which greatly improves [abc]HDR10[/abc] content to support comparison with [abc]HDR10+[/abc] and/or [abc]HDR Dolby Vision[/abc] content.

BenQ W5800, same as the BenQ W5850 but without interchangeable lenses££££

Good news for owners of the BenQ W5800, the latter will receive a [abc]Firmware[/abc] update later this year, which, according to BenQ representatives, includes all the software developments of the BenQ W5850. Thus, the W5800 will soon correspond to a W5850 equipped with a lens with a 1.5-2.45 ratio. The only difference between the W5800 and W5850 would therefore be the possibility of changing the lens on the latter, unlike the former. With a price difference of €300 between the two references, €4,999 for the BenQ W5800 against €5,299 for the BenQ W5850.
