Sony intends to heavily robotize the production lines of its main TV factory in Malaysia. According to Kimio Maki, in charge of Electronic Products and Solutions at Sony, this change will allow the company to reduce its production costs by 70% by 2023, compared to 2018.
Increase the profitability of the TV division
Robotization will also reduce production defects, even if nothing is mentioned about the reduction of human staff. In combination with the desire to increase its online sales as well as services for TV, Maki believes that this new initiative should increase the profitability of its television division. In the future, the company will also use robotics for the manufacture of smartphones and cameras. Source: Financial Times
