According to the latest figures from Counterpoint Research, 1.39 billion smartphones were distributed in 2021, an increase of 4% compared to last year, and the first year of growth since 2017. Distribution remains similarly below pre-pandemic levels, with the impact of Covid-19 and component shortages still being felt.

Samsung is once again number 1 in the market in 2021 with 271 million units distributed, i.e. 6% better than in 2020, thanks in particular to demand for the mid-range Galaxy A and M models. Apple knows for its shares its best year in terms of volumes with 237.9 million units, 6% better than the previous year, thanks in particular to the success of the iPhone 12 and 13. Distribution record also for Xiaomi with 190 million units and 31% growth. Record also for Oppo with 143.2 million units and 28% annual growth. Finally, record still for Vivo with 131.3 million at +21%.
Counterpoint Research notes that the top five brands gained market share thanks to Huawei's decline and LG's exit from the smartphone market.
