Wi-Fi 6 is getting better

In early January, a few days before the opening of the CES show in Las Vegas 2022, the Wi-Fi Alliance organization announced Wi-Fi 6 Release 2, an improvement to the Wi-Fi 6 standard.

Several improvements are made to the Wi-Fi 6 communication standard with this Release 2 announced by the Wi-Fi Alliance. This new version of the wireless network protocol is intended for routers and other devices, both at home and in professional environments.

Wi-Fi 6 Release 2, what's new

We start with an improved upload functionality thanks to Mimo compatibility, allowing more devices to send data from the same access point. This results in a higher upload speed, interesting for streaming or video conferencing. Note also better management of energy consumption and network coverage. These new features are available on all bands: 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz and 6 gigahertz.

The word to Edgar Figueroa, president of the Wi-Fi Alliance

“Wi-Fi offers advanced capabilities that have brought incredible innovations to the world, paving the way for enormous growth in the applications users rely on every day,” said Edgar Figueroa, President of Wi-Fi Alliance. Certified Wi-Fi 6 Release 2 evolves Wi-Fi to meet today's market demands, and support Wi-Fi scenarios with greater capacity, efficiency and reliability”.

The benefits of the Wi-Fi 6 Release 2 standard will come to Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E smartphones, tablets, and computers. And new compatible devices should arrive in the first half of 2022.
