05.04.2022 • 10h52
Thunderbolt in perspective this year on the TV market, according to the latest report from the analyst firm Omdia, the Chinese TCL could well overtake LG to take second place in the world ranking.
Namely, Omdia's forecasts are based on the supply of secure TV panels for each of the brands, for 2022. TV market 2022, Samsung ahead of TCL then LG Of course, this figure takes into account the panels produced or purchased by each of them, no brand being able to meet all of its needs. In question the specialization of each other according to the screen technology or the size of the slabs. Last point, the number of panels ordered by the brands never corresponds to in-store sales, a buffer stock being necessary for after-sales service, breakage, theft, exhibition materials... However, it is a reliable indicator of the shares of each market, the ratio of TV sales to deliveries of TV panels being similar from one brand to another. In the end, the ranking is as follows: • Samsung: 55.6 million for 2022 against 47.9 million in 2021 • LG Electronics: 34.3 million for 2022 against 33 million in 2021 • TCL: 36.5 million for 2022 against 32.4 million in 2021 LG, value at the expense of volume As you can see, the figures put forward by Omdia show an increase of 4.1 million panels for TCL, only 1.3 million for LG. If TV sales in stores follow the same trend (most likely), the Chinese firm will overtake the Korean firm, relegating LG to third position. For its part, the Samsung company is off to a good start in 2022 for its 17th year of unchallenged reign on the TV market, a real feat. But if the TCL brand is progressing commercially, it should also be noted that the LG strategy has radically evolved in recent times, the Korean firm favoring value over volume. Thus, if for 2022, LG forecasts a relatively stable stock of LCD panels (+300,000), on the other hand that of the more profitable OLED panels will increase significantly (+1 million). Similarly, Omdia indicates that for its LCD range, LG will focus on its Mini LED models (see our CES 22 news > Mini LED TV LG QNED80/82, LG QNED86/87, LG QNED90/91 and LG QNED99: from 50 '' to 86'') and NanoCell. Samsung and LG, strengthened commercial partnership Latest forecast by Omdia, the figures for Samsung include 3 million Oled panels, 2 million White Oled specimens from LG Display and 1 million QD Oled signed by Samsung Display (see our 2022 Oled TV news: LG and Samsung are teaming up !). Similarly, for its LCD panels, Samsung should increasingly source supplies from LG Display: from 900,000 units in 2021 to 4.2 million in 2022. Logical since at the same time, deliveries of Samsung Display to Samsung Electronics will drop from 7.1 million in 2021 to 4 million in 2022 (see our news Samsung Display postpones the discontinuation of LCD panels to the end of 2022?).
