The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X consoles are the most affected by the shortage of electronic components that has been running for a while, making them difficult to find in stores. Also, the situation between Russia and Ukraine does not help. And the Nintendo Switch is not immune, as Japanese media outlet Nikkei Asia reveals.
Nintendo Switch sales drop in 2022 linked to Shanghai lockdown
Nintendo would indeed have lowered its sales estimate for the year 2022, in particular because of the confinement in Shanghai which affects the production and delivery of components. There will therefore be 10% fewer consoles distributed compared to 2021, despite still strong consumer demand. Where Nintendo hoped to sell more than 22 million Switches this year, that figure could drop below 20 million.
As a result, the console may be more difficult to find in some regions, and no price drop should be observed, despite the relative age of the console.
