Gran Turismo 7, luxury car simulation on PlayStation 5

A quick look with Gran Turismo 7 on the latest episode of "the" car simulation saga on PlayStation, started in the last century and now sublimated by the latest video game technologies.

Always developed by Polyphony Digital on behalf of Sony, Gran Turismo 7 is the latest opus in a series of games started on the first PlayStation in 1997. Despite the technical limitations of the time, the game marked its time by a grandiose execution and gameplay offering real driving sensations, unlike the more forgiving handling of other titles, more arcade oriented.

Gran Turismo 7, Performance mode or Ray Tracing mode

The philosophy of then still remains in this new episode, with the most realistic driving possible and a production with small onions, this last point being facilitated by the power of the current PlayStation 5. There are thus two graphic modes: a Performance mode that prioritizes framerate smoothness, and a Ray Tracing mode that magnifies certain sections of the game like Photo mode, Replays, and the Garage.

Gran Turismo 7, changing weather and day/night cycle for increased realism

If some people will regret not being able to apply Ray Tracing to the playable phases, they can be reassured because the latter are no less magnificent. Special mention for the weather effects, as well as the day/night cycle which changes the environment in real time. In particular, they give a second life to circuits that we have already been able to explore in previous episodes.

Gran Turismo 7, enduring gameplay and automotive history

On the game side, Sony has emphasized the Solo mode, with a central point called Gran Turismo Café in which many missions are distributed to the player. They allow you to gradually become familiar with the intricacies of the title: pass permits, find and buy cars, personalize them, and of course participate in races. Along the way, the player unlocks cars - more than 400 in total - as well as short videos explaining the role of these cars in automotive history.

Gran Turismo 7, the contribution of the DualSense controller

As for the handling, it obviously benefited from a particular care. The feeling offered by almost every car is different from the others, and the precision of the vibrations of the DualSense controller is put to work. We will thus note unique tactile feedback according to specific places traveled from one circuit to another.

Gran Turismo 7 on PS5, best episode since the PS2 version

There is also a portion where you can compete against other players online, but as developed as it is, it is not the heart of the matter as was the case for the previous episode Gran Turismo Sport. However, it completes an already well-stocked set, and regulars of the saga can only admit that this is the best episode to date since the golden age of Gran Turismo, PlayStation 2 version. in his toy library!
