Samsung and LG still leading the TV market

The market research and analysis firm Omdia unveiled its figures for the global TV market for the first quarter of 2022 on May 24. Manufacturers Samsung and LG still dominate the sector…

According to Omdia, the TV market for the first three months of 2022 appears down 6.3% to 25.675 billion dollars in value and 4.3% to 49.07 million units in volume.

Samsung still top leader

“The market share of Samsung Electronics, which has led the market for 16 consecutive years, was 32.9% by value and 22.5% based on volume, the Omdia representative said. He added: In the first quarter, QLED TV sales volume was 3.3 million units, up 23% from a year earlier, and Samsung Electronics accounted for 76% of this market segment. In the 75” or more market segment, Samsung Electronics posted a 40.7% market share for sales, higher than the sum of the second, third and fourth players in this sector. When it comes to TVs 80'' or more and TVs displayed at US$2,500 or more, its market share was 48.1% and 49.3% respectively.

LG takes advantage of the increase in Oled TV sales

Meanwhile, LG Electronics recorded the highest shipments in the first quarter, supplying 924,600 Oled TVs, up 17% year-on-year. Total first quarter shipments of Oled and LCD TVs were 6,193,600 units. In terms of sales, LG Electronics accounted for 17.7% of the global market in the first quarter, as total global shipments of Oled TVs increased 24.7% year-on-year to 1,486,000 units and total shipments of LCD TVs fell 5%. In terms of shipments, the Korean company's share of the global OLED TV market was therefore 62.2% in the first quarter.

During this period, South Korea's market share in terms of TV sales was 50.6% and second-place China's was 25.9%.
