Arrived discreetly on the French TV market in the 2010s, notably with the Thomson license, the Chinese manufacturer TCL set out to earn its stripes patiently and with the strength of the wrist.
TCL innovates
Meaning by that with a long-term vision via an attractive commercial policy (offering TVs at very good value for money), a wide referencing with distributors and a clever dose of innovation allowing the brand to emerge in this ultra-competitive sector (see our news TCL, the Chinese manufacturer who dares to innovate to find out more about this now essential player in the global TV market). In addition to highlighting many technologies (WCG, QLED…), TCL was for example the first brand to adopt the Mini LED with the first TV of its kind marketed in 2019, the TCL 65X10.
Activation of the DDC function for a CalMan / 3DLut calibration
No doubt that the Asian firm will be talked about again in the coming weeks (normally by the end of August) with its TCL C728 and TCL C825 TV series which will have a welcome feature worthy of the best broadcasters on the market, a CalMan / 3DLut calibration (color conversion table for unprecedented colorimetric accuracy). The latter will be possible via the Professional calibration / DDC (Direct Display Control) section available in the TV menu. And even if we do not yet have a number of color conversion points that will be managed through this function, it is in any case a brilliant initiative on the part of TCL which will significantly improve the ergonomics of calibration, therefore the displayed result.
TCL, top quality lens
While this functionality should be directly integrated into the TCL C728 and TCL C825 TVs which will be leaving the manufacturer's production lines from September, a Firmware update is planned for TVs marketed since June. This demonstrates TCL's desire to offer consistently superior image quality. Of course, we'll take a close look (we have a TCL C825 TV in our lab) and we'll keep you posted on the results in our columns.
