Audience records for House of the Dragon

The first season of the Game of Thrones spin-off has come to an end, not without breaking some audience records along the way.

According to its broadcaster HBO, the first season of House of the Dragon - prequel to Game of Thrones - has become its most-watched series on its streaming services outside the USA. Especially in Europe, where the show did even better than the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones.

Lag between broadcast and viewing

In the United States, each episode of the series attracted an average of 29 million viewers, three times more than the initial audience of the very first episode, showing that many people do not necessarily watch an episode as soon as it is released, preferring to save it for later.

"We are thrilled to see House of the Dragon engulfing Game of Thrones fans everywhere, even those new to the universe of Westeros," said Casey Bloys, CEO of HBO.
