Evelyn (Michelle Yeoh), owner of a laundry, braves head-on an inconvenient tax inspector (Jamie Lee Curtis), a request for divorce from her husband Waymond (Ke Huy Quan) as well as the incessant requests of her father (James Hong) and his daughter (Stephanie Hsu). This personal maelstrom is suddenly plunged into parallel worlds where Evelyn explores the different lives she could have led and confronts Jobu, an evil alternate version of her daughter…
A well stamped duo
Everything Everywhere All at Once, a wacky multiverse-based action comedy, was concocted by the Daniel Kwan/Daniel Scheinert duo. The duo (in the photo below) was not at their first attempt at barred pitches, as evidenced by their previous film, the very stamped Swiss Army Man.
The (very physical) starring role of Everything Everywhere All at Once was initially supposed to go to Jackie Chan before "the Daniels" hired the no less invigorating Michelle Yeoh (Tiger and Dragon, the next Avatar 2). Although modestly supported by its distributors, Everything Everywhere All at Once managed to amass a very honorable worldwide box office of 103 million dollars. Not in France, alas, where barely more than 348,000 spectators made the trip to the cinema.
The enthusiastic review
Everything Everywhere All at Once, carried by an enthusiastic critic on its release, enjoys a very positive overall appreciation (95% satisfaction on Rotten Tomatoes). This bodes well for a very nice second Home Cinema life for the film, especially in 4K.
