CES 23 > LG Display Oled Meta, 2,100 nits for these 3rd generation panels

While LG Electronics is always careful to specify the nature of the technology embedded in its new LG G3 Oled TV series (see our CES 23 news > LG G3 Oled TV, specifications update and photos), unlike Panasonic ( see our CES 23 news > Panasonic MZ2000 Oled TV: MLA technology for 1,500 nits), LG Display is stepping up to the plate and confirming the use of microlenses via its third-generation Oled Meta panels.

The screen manufacturer LG Display has therefore unveiled its third generation Oled Meta TV panels on this first day of the CES show in Las Vegas 2023. And at the same time confirming the implementation of MLA (Micro Lenses Array) technology , see our news LG Display reacts to QD Oled Samsung Display technology with an Oled Smart TV offering 2,000 nits), associated with the Meta Booster, for a light peak announced at 2,100 nits.

Oled TV Panel Meta = MLA + Meta Booster

LG Display specifies that the MLA process is the heart of OLED Meta TV panels. This layer of microlenses optimizes the amount of light emitted by the Oled panel (recovery of light lost in internal reflections), while improving its energy efficiency by 22% compared to a screen of identical brightness. LG Display also states that a 77'' (196 cm) Oled TV panel displays a total of 42.4 billion microlenses, or about 5,117 per pixel. The Meta Booster function, for its part, corresponds to a technical package intended to magnify the brightness and the colors displayed, in particular with an HDR signal.

Oled Meta TV panel, improved viewing angle

Finally, while the use of a layer of microlenses raised fears of a lesser viewing angle, LG Display ensures that its Oled Meta TV panels offer the widest viewing angle, in a proportion of + 30%, available on the market. Last precision, the Oled Meta TV panels will be available first via the Ultra HD 4K 55 '', 65 '' and 65 '' and Ultra HD 8K 77 '' and 88 inch diagonals.
