According to the latest figures from IDC, the fourth quarter of 2022 saw an 18.3% drop in global smartphone distribution compared to the same period in 2021.
Smartphone market at its lowest since 2013
A figure in line with those of the Canalys firm, which we have already reported to you in our pages. The year ends with a total distribution of 1.21 billion units, the lowest annual figure since 2013. We are beginning to know the reasons mentioned: falling demand, inflation, and economic uncertainties.

In the 4th quarter of 2022, Apple regained its leading position with a market share of 23.1% despite a distribution drop of 14.9% compared to the same period the previous year. In question, difficulties on its production lines in Zhengzou, and demand still at half mast. Samsung finishes second with a distribution down 15.6% compared to 2021. Xiaomi is third over the last quarter with an even more severe drop of 26.3%. Oppo and Vivo complete the Top 5 with more moderate distribution drops: 15.9% and 18.9% respectively.
