With its budget of 65 million euros, Asterix and Obelix: The Middle Kingdom sets the bar high, very high, to cross the break-even point. Good news for Pathé and Guillaume Canet, who suffered a complicated shooting, the new Asterix and Obelix made the best start of a French film for fifteen years (slightly ahead of La Ch'tite famille by Dany Boon), with 466,703 tickets sold in France this Wednesday. And the seventh best start ever for a French film.
Magic potion or not?
It must be said that the promotional campaign was smoothly and massively carried out with a team on the job, and that previews followed one another throughout Gaul. Not enough to soften the pen of the critics, who obviously have little taste of the magic potion Canet version. To see if word-of-mouth continues to work well…
In the meantime, the 4K Ultra HD pre-order is already open by clicking on Asterix and Obelix: the Middle Empire. More info as soon as possible, of course.
